Fabric Care Guide

Gentle care for pieces made to last a lifetime.

Hand block printed textiles are living works of art. With a little care, your Kalamkaari piece will keep its colour, its gold and its beauty for years to come.

I.

The Golden Rules

Four habits that protect every piece.

DC

Dry Clean

Professional dry cleaning is the safest choice for all raw silk and taffeta silk pieces.

☀︎

Avoid Sunlight

Dry and store away from direct sun to keep colours rich.

↻

Iron on Reverse

Use a low heat on the reverse side to protect the print and gold.

✦︎

Store in Cotton

Wrap in muslin or cotton, never plastic, so the fabric can breathe.

II.

Do & Don't

A quick reference before you wash, press or store.

✓Do

  • Dry clean raw silk and taffeta silk pieces with a trusted cleaner.
  • If hand washing is unavoidable, use cold water and a mild, gentle detergent.
  • Roll the fabric in a clean towel to remove excess water.
  • Dry flat or on a hanger in the shade.
  • Apply perfume and deodorant before you dress.
  • Refold shawls along different lines from time to time.

✕Don't

  • Wring, twist or scrub the fabric.
  • Soak printed pieces for long periods.
  • Use bleach or harsh detergents.
  • Tumble dry or dry in direct sunlight.
  • Iron directly onto gold prints or with high heat.
  • Store in plastic bags or damp places.

Pressing

Never iron directly onto gold. Press from the reverse at low heat.

Fold with tissue between layers so the gold doesn't rub against itself.

Cleaning

Dry clean only to protect the raw silk and hand block print.

Wearing

Take care with jewellery, brooches and bag straps that may snag.

Storing

Fold loosely in muslin and refold along new lines now and then to avoid creases.

Table LinenMehfil · Taffeta Silk & Cotton
Taffeta Silk

Dry clean only. Blot spills straight away with a clean, dry cloth; never rub.

Cotton

Hand wash gently in cold water, separately, with a mild detergent. Dry in the shade.

Storing

Store flat or loosely rolled in a cotton cover to avoid sharp creases.

Hand-printed colours may release slightly in the first wash, so always wash cotton pieces on their own.
