Frequently Asked Questions
Every Kalamkaari piece carries a story, and a few questions come with it. Choose a topic to begin.
Our Craft
The hands, the blocks and the vision behind every piece.
Is every piece really hand block printed?
Yes. Each design is printed by hand using carved wooden blocks, one impression at a time. Colours are mixed by hand, and every length of fabric is inspected before it leaves our atelier.
Why does my piece look slightly different from the photographs?
Hand block printing is an artisanal process, so small variations in print placement, colour depth and motif spacing are natural. They are the signature of the hand that made it, and they make each piece one of a kind.
Screen settings can also affect how colours appear online.Who designs the collections?
Every collection is designed by our founder, Samina Butt, a Fine Arts graduate of the University of the Punjab with more than four decades of artistic practice and over twenty-five years devoted to block printing.
Our Pieces
Unstitched suits, fabrics and caring for them.
What does “unstitched” mean?
Our suits arrive as uncut fabric, ready for your tailor, so each one can be fitted precisely to you.
A three-piece suit includes fabric for the shirt, dupatta and trouser. A two-piece includes the shirt and dupatta.
What fabric are your suits made from?
Our unstitched suits are made from Pakistani raw silk, valued for its natural texture, soft lustre and the depth it gives to block printed colour and gold.
How much fabric is included?
Each three-piece suit includes:
This is generous enough for most tailored styles. If you have questions for your tailor, please write to us before ordering.
How should I care for my piece?
We recommend dry cleaning for all raw silk and silk pieces. Each product page includes care instructions, and our Fabric Care Guide explains how to keep your textiles beautiful for years.
