In Urdu, naqsh is the mark an artist leaves behind: an impression, an engraving, a line that endures. Atelier 01 is the first expression of that idea, a cool ice blue raw silk ground hand block printed in soft ivory by the hand of Samina Butt.

The composition is quiet and architectural. A framed panel on the shirt front holds a single flowing paisley, enclosed by bands of trailing florals, while delicate sprig motifs scatter across the dupatta like a garden seen through a jharokha. Ivory on blue keeps every line legible, so the craftsmanship of each impression can be read up close.

The Shirt

The ice blue shirt carries the heart of the design: a framed front panel enclosing a single flowing paisley, edged by trailing floral borders and scattered sprigs printed in ivory.

The Dupatta

The coordinating dupatta is printed with delicate sprig motifs and finished with a richly detailed floral border, falling in soft folds that echo the shirt's composition.

The Trouser

A plain blue trouser completes the ensemble, a calm foundation that lets the hand block printed shirt and dupatta remain the focus.

Styling

Let the ivory print lead. Layered pearls or antique silver, soft kundan studs and ivory khussas keep the look luminous for daytime gatherings. For the evening, a single statement necklace against the paisley panel is all it needs.

Craftsmanship & Print Variation

Every Kalamkaari piece is printed by hand, block by block. Slight variations in placement, depth of colour and texture are the signature of the artisan's hand, and make each piece entirely its own.

Caring for Your Raw Silk

Hand block printed raw silk is a living textile. Treated gently, it will keep its texture and the clarity of every impression for years to come.

• Dry clean only is recommended, to protect both the raw silk and the hand-printed colours.
• If hand washing is unavoidable, use cold water and a mild, pH-neutral silk detergent. Wash separately and do not soak.
• Never wring or twist. Press out water gently, roll in a clean towel and dry flat in the shade.
• Keep away from direct sunlight, which can fade natural block print colours.
• Iron on the reverse at a low silk setting, with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
• Apply perfume and deodorant before dressing, never directly onto the fabric.
• Store folded in a muslin or cotton cloth, never in plastic, in a cool, dry place. Refold occasionally along new lines so creases do not set.
